Many Pets May Loose Homes

As households are caught in the economic downturn, more and more cats and dogs are at risk of becoming homeless.

To avoid or ease the heartbreak of losing an animal companion due to economic hardship, think of alternatives ahead of time:

See if friends, family or neighbors can provide temporary foster care for pets until the household situation gets better.

If moving into a rental property, get written permission in advance that pets are allowed.

Contact rescue groups or your humane society well before moving. If a rescue agrees to take the pet, provide medical records, behavior information and anything else that might help the pet find a new home. See www.Spotsociety.org for rescue resources.

Everyone is being affected by the current economic crisis in some way. Community animal shelters and rescue groups are all seeing an increase in homeless pets, most are now full and are experiencing a decrease in the donations they rely on.

Please help in any way you can:

* Adopt a homeless pet. See our Available Animals Page, or see our link... www.Petfinder.com/shelters/ga89.html, or visit the County Animal Shelter at 1755 County Services Rd, Douglasville.

*Become a member of your Humane Society

*Volunteer for...Pet Pantry, Animal Transport, Flood Damage Repair, or help at upcoming Adoption Weekends.

You remember Molly, the little dog dropped off at the gate with her puppies?
I sent you a pic of her with her other friends in our house. (Cheryle Shaughnessy) and I thought you might want an updated pic. We also took care of her heartworm (she was infected) We have also got another rescue dog since then. We love her dearly, and she has come into her own, being our only watchdog of the group.  Incase you wanted a real BIG success story.. she is outgoing, protective, playful, and loving. in case you don't remember what she looked like, she's the fat one on the chest at bottom of bed.
Keep up the good work.

The Douglas County Humane Society bought a Horse Trailer for Douglas County Animal Control.

This weekend the Humane Society updated the wiring and added new lights.

(Thank you Sam Memmolo)

Jimmy Franklin’s Bright Star Tire and Alignment worked on the valve stems of the tires complimentary for the Humane Society.

The delivery went great at the shelter. The photo is of Sam Memmolo presenting the horse trailer to Animal Control Manager Chuck Brawn.
